Founder

Based in Redondo Beach, California, Public Safety 6X was founded by Terry Harvey to provide people help with boating accidents. A true Manhattan Beach local, Terry is a retired captain from Los Angeles County Fire Department, and he has spent more than 30 years as a public safety professional. As a Public Information Officer (PIO), Terry facilitated the strategic dissemination of information and resources to address critical incidents and events.

Prior to being captain, Terry was the Department Training Coordinator. This special assignment includes management of all department personnel certifications and all department special training assignments. As part of his assignment, he acted as the lead training instructor for the cadet academy and re-certification training. He was also responsible for re-certifying all employees in CPR, AED, and EMT to ensure the current American Heart Association's standards were being met.

In this role Terry proposed and prepared a pilot program for personal water craft rescue, which has proven to be a very successful. In the first months of a six-month pilot, Personal Water Craft Rescue Program Ocean Lifeguard Specialists made over 48 surf rescues and saved many lives. The program received two prestigious awards and recognition from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. With this success, Terry was directed to write a Personal Water Craft Rescue Operating Manual along with the department standards and department safety policies.

Terry Harvey

Terry was also a lead instructor for The California Boating and Waterway Rescue Boat Operations Class held by the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Law enforcement and public safety professional from various state and local agencies came to take this class. This type of instructing was very challenging yet very rewarding for our founder.

He spent several hours as rescue operator, operating the inflatable rescue boat and personal watercraft at special events, including triathlons, open water swim events, and youth events. He was there to perform as a rescue resource and to ensure water safety.

Since retiring from Los Angeles County Fire Department, Terry has been a public safety consultant. He has provided investigative services, reports, and testimony that helped resolve personal injury matters involving public and private facilities. As a passionate public safety professional, he is committed to lead by example, and he believes giving back to the community is essential for personal development and growth.

He is a dedicated waterman and all around lover of the sea. When off duty or not working, Terry can be found in the water surfing or on his boat.
